In short: Israel's most important heritage sites are sometimes located in high-risk areas. A ride in an armored vehicle, with a driver who knows the roads, lets you reach them in comfort and security. Every trip is subject to prior approval by the Israel Police, so planning starts early.

Jerusalem: the Western Wall and the Old City
Jerusalem is the main destination of most visits to Israel. At the Western Wall Plaza, as the photo shows, a vehicle stops only where it is allowed to, and you continue on foot. When planning a trip to the Old City, decide in advance where the vehicle drops you off and where it waits.
On narrow streets and at busy hours, a very large vehicle is not always the right choice. An SUV suits most cases, and a Sprinter suits a group that needs to stay together.
Rachel's Tomb
Rachel's Tomb stands at the northern entrance to Bethlehem, and Jerusalem's municipal boundary runs just north of it. The site is surrounded by a wall and sits beside Checkpoint 300. Access is limited and depends on the security arrangements in force that day, so check them before you travel.
Hebron and the Cave of the Patriarchs
The Cave of the Patriarchs is in the Old City of Hebron, about 30 km south of Jerusalem. According to tradition, Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, and Jacob and Leah are buried there. Israeli forces control access to the site, and Jewish and Muslim worshippers have separate entrances and areas. Access arrangements change on certain days of the year.
What to plan in advance
- Approvals. Every trip with us is subject to prior approval by the Israel Police, which is the first reason to get in touch early.
- The route. Our drivers are highly experienced and thoroughly familiar with the roads and routes to Israel's key heritage sites.
- Dates and times. Holidays and events affect crowding and access to the holy sites.
- Getting out of the vehicle. Some sites require a walk from the parking point. Keep that in mind, especially with older travelers and children.
- Choosing the vehicle. The number of passengers decides between an armored SUV and an armored Mercedes Sprinter. Our vehicle guide has the details.
Why an armored vehicle with a driver
In an armored vehicle, protection starts with the vehicle itself: ballistic glass, 360° perimeter protection and run-flat tire inserts. Just as important is who drives. Our drivers are security-cleared and graduates of advanced tactical driving programs. We explain why that matters in armored car with a driver.
